Culture

Milan is a famous art and culture centre:  everyday there are hundreds of free public or privately-sponsored cultural events. In spring and summer these events are held in parks, gardens, courtyards, and city squares. Milan’s architectural, artistic, and museum heritage is worthy of interest, with its Castle, its churches, its historical mansions, Leonardo Da Vinci’s Last Supper at the Santa Maria delle Grazie church, Michelangelo’s Rondanini Pieta at the Castello Sforzesco, works by Mantegna, Bramante and Raphael at the Pinacoteca di Brera.

One of its most famous institutions is the ‘La Scala’; this theatre’s opera, ballet or symphony productions attract thousands from all over the world. The fact that La Scala's programme is recognised worldwide is the best tribute to Giuseppe Verdi, whose operas all debuted there.

There’s a strong symbiosis between culture producers (art galleries, museums, theatres, cinemas, record companies, graphic designers, architects, photographers etc.) and consumers who live in the city.

In Milan it’s possible to watch films or see art shows from all over the world and it’s not difficult to meet artists who live and work here.
