The Faculty of Statistics is for those with the curiosity to observe phenomena, understand them and communicate them to others by making numbers make sense. By collecting data, processing and synthesizing them, statisticians communicate important information and help others to make important decisions in moments of uncertainty. Statisticians move within a heterogeneous work culture that includes computer science, economics, demographics, sociology, psychology, biomedicine and environmental science. Graduates of this faculty get into the job market with relative ease because there is an increasing demand for statisticians in the private sector.
The Faculty of Statistics has an especially close relationship with the corporate and industrial world. Countless corporations and institutions collaborate in the planning of the degree courses, seminars, and field work. They also offer grants, scholarships and internships to outstanding students.
The degree courses require attendance in theoretical and practical seminars and thesis preparation. The Internship Office, with about 200 business placements, is a testament to the will of the Faculty of Statistics and that of industry to collaborate on students’ statistical formation. All statistics students can do an internship with dual supervision by a faculty-member and a business representative.
