Structural embedding of knowledge by experience in higher education through processes of co-creation
Community-based support is put forward in different European countries as an adequate way to support people in vulnerable situations. In this evolution a strong focus lies on the strengths and capabilities of people themselves. Expertise of people with lived experiences… Leggi tutto (experiential knowledge) is seen as a third form of knowledge, in addition to academic and professional knowledge relevant to support people in the broad social domain. Despite the recent tendencies to involve considerably more knowledge by experience in the social and medical services, only the first small steps are being taken to embed knowledge by experience in higher education. The embedding of knowledge by experience in higher education is barely non-existent or limited to the giving of testimonies. At the moment there is a mismatch between the skills and knowledge that students are receiving within social studies in higher education and the skills and knowledges they need as social professionals in the broad social field. Therefore, this project (SEKEHE) wants to structurally embed knowledge by experience in higher education in the social domain (e.g. social work, special needs education, psychology) through the principles of co-creation. The main objectives of the project are threefold: 1) structurally embed knowledge by experience in social studies in higher education through methods of co-teaching (focus on education), 2) structurally embed knowledge by experience in the existing structures that determine the curricula in higher education institutions and 3) create a format together with educated experts by experience, teaching/supporting staff and students on how to support students in vulnerable situations (e.g. mental health problems, addiction, poverty) and anchor this in the existing educational structures (focus on support).
