Biografia
Martino is a medical doctor with postgraduate specialisations in Medical Statistics, awarded with honours, and in Anaesthesiology and Pain Therapy. He also obtained a Master’s diploma in Machine Learning and Big Data from the University of Padua, graduating with top marks. He is currently in the third year of his PhD in Public Health at the University of Milano-Bicocca.
His doctoral research focuses on the development of a population-based predictive model for heart failure outcomes using supervised machine learning techniques. He is also involved in a PhD project on microsimulation modelling for non-communicable diseases (NCDs), in collaboration with University College Cork (UCC), Ireland. His broader research interests include dietary patterns, psychosocial factors associated with pain severity in hospitalised patients, and the pathophysiological mechanisms of neuropathic pain and CRPS.
Martino also completed a six-month research period at the Department of Public Health in Liverpool, under the supervision of Prof. Martin O’Flaherty and researcher Zoe Colombet. During this period, he conducted a study to identify dietary patterns of ultra-processed food (UPF) consumption in UK adults and to explore their nutritional characteristics, as well as the associated demographic and socio-economic factors, using principal component analysis and cluster analysis.
