Microscopio dotato di fascio di elettroni che, attraversando il campione, permette un maggior ingrandimento (fino alla risoluzione degli organelli cellulari e dei virus) rispetto a microscopio ottico. Il campione deve essere adeguatamente preparato (sezioni ultrafini e trattate per essere opache al passaggio degli elettroni) .
