Presentation of the course
The Bachelor's Degree in Economics and Science for Environmental Sustainability (ESES) aims to train “tech-economists” capable of understanding, analysing, and interpreting the complex interrelations between economic systems and the environment. Graduates will be equipped to develop effective strategies for promoting the ecological transition of production and business systems, the sustainable management of natural – both renewable and non-renewable – resources and energy sources, and the advancement of sustainable and circular economic models.

The programme, which is entirely taught in English, offers an innovative and transdisciplinary curriculum that synergistically integrates advanced knowledge of economics and statistics with competencies from the environmental sciences, particularly biology, chemistry, and geology.

This educational offering responds to the growing demand for professionals able to contribute to the ecological transition of the economy through technically sound and economically efficient solutions that can be scaled globally. Special emphasis is placed on the circularity of production systems, Life Cycle Assessment, and the environmentally compatible management of natural resources.

Reflecting its strong transdisciplinary orientation, the ESES degree is the result of a fruitful collaboration between the Department of Economics, Quantitative Methods and Business Strategies (DEMS), which formally hosts the programme, and the Department of Environmental and Earth Sciences (DISAT). Both departments have been recognised as “Departments of Excellence” for the 2023–2027 period by the Italian Ministry of University and Research, in acknowledgment of their outstanding scientific and educational achievements. The presence of faculty with expertise in social, environmental, quantitative, and legal disciplines within the academic board ensures a well-balanced and integrated curriculum aligned with the specific goals of the ESES programme.

The programme is currently undergoing the accreditation process.
